You may have noticed by now that I am a sucker for cheesy life-isn't-so-bad song lyrics. One of my current faves (I'm almost embarrassed to admit it, almost.) is Miley Cyrus' new song:

The Climb
I can almost see it. That dream I'm dreaming, but There's a voice inside my head saying You'll never reach it Every step I'm takin' Every move I make Feels lost with no direction, My faith is shakin' But I gotta keep tryin' Gotta keep my head held high

There's always gonna be another mountain I'm always gonna wanna make it move Always gonna be an uphill battle Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose Ain't about how fast I get there Ain't about what's waitin' on the other side. It's the climb

The struggles I'm facing The chances I'm taking Sometimes might knock me down, but No I'm not breaking I may not know it, but These are the moments that I'm gonna remember most I've just gotta keep goin', and I gotta be strong Just keep pushing on, but

Personal thought: I don't think life has much to do with where you start or where you end up. It's about how we handle the climb. We are all fully capable of handling whatever life throws at us, we just get lazy and unfocused sometimes.

Thomas Edison said, "If we did all the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves." I got that off the calendar in my sister's bedroom and I love it! Can you imagine waking up in the morning and astounding yourself? God gave each of us the capacity to deal. More than that--He gave us the capacity to thrive. And when we allow ourselves to be hysterical when life gives us challenges, or we can't get out of bed in the morning because we think we've got it so bad, or we turn everything into a personal drama that we believe outweighs anyone else's struggles, we are giving Satan a foothold in our lives and throwing in God's face the abilities He has blessed us all with.

Did you expect me to be so churchy today? I sure didn't, but it's my blog and I can say whatever I want ;) . So get up in the morning and astound yourself. And join us next week when we will draw inspiration from the words of the Vanilla Ice classic "Ice Ice Baby".

Not really. But really, it's about the climb.

WOW! I needed to hear this. Thanks for an inspirational post, and a good laugh! :)
Chuckle, chuckle,....it would be nice to astound oneself....just have to figure out how.
Thanks Brenda! I'm going through a really hard time and I needed this. Do you mind if I blog a link to this entry?
That was such a good post! I loved the paragraph that started with the quote by Edison. I copied and pasted it into my favorite quote file-hope that's ok-I gave you the credit! You are amazing!
Thank you, Brenda. You are sounding very wise indeed. Such good things to think about. Love you.
By the way, Alyssa sings this all the time. I will try my best to get her on video for you.
